A Registration Fee of $200 payable to CCSAR, due by May 1st, 2007, includes all course material and a certificate.

The Search And Rescue Fundamentals (FUNSAR) course is designed to teach the essential knowledge and skills necessary to perform as the response units at a lost person incident.  With experience, the person with this training will have the basic skills and knowledge to perform Search and Rescue (SAR).

Who should attend?  The course is designed for the following types of people:

  • Emergency response professionals with designated responsibilities to function as the "on-scene"
    manager during a lost person incident.

  • SAR personnel who want to learn comprehensive and detailed information about lost person
    incidents.

  • Community members who have an interest in participating in a lost person incident.

Upon successful completion of the 45-hour course the student will: understand SAR theory, understand essential skills and equipment for emergency survival, have the basis knowledge of wilderness travel, understand and recognize stress problems in SAR, know the basic techniques to conduct a search, know how to handle evidence, understand the importance of clues and the importance of lost person behavior/histories, be aware of considerations for managing external influences and the importance of planning a rescue operation.

This course has been developed by Gordie Snow, Royal Canadian Mounted Police(Retired).

Gordie has participated in over 200 searches and supervised over 50 searches during his 35 years in the RCMP. In 1984 he became Ground Search and Rescue Coordinator for the province of New Brunswick, and was also responsible for organizing and training volunteers throughout the Province. He is a certified instructor in a wide range of courses in wilderness survival, map and compass, human tracking and search techniques.

Certified CCSAR instructors will be presenting and assisting with the course.
